The Church
How about your church? Has it become a business more than a ministry? How about the ministry outside your local church you have chosen to support? Do you know much about it? Does its leader live in an ivory tower accompanied by a lavish life-style? Does it spend lots of money on cars and airplanes or other luxuries unnecessarily? Is it a good steward of the money you send to invest in its stated purpose? Does it have a stated purpose? Is the ministry you support given to Godliness more than its own existence? Is it scandal-ridden? Does its leader have characteristics that include grace and mercy? Would it provide a financial statement if requested?
It seems that stewardship and accountability among ministries have greatly come into question these days! One popular ministry recently was discovered as having a twenty-thousand-dollar marble toilet. Another recently purchased a several-million dollar lake house. The reasoning was that God's ministers need recreation and relaxation. Another has a many thousand-acre ranch with a huge mansion and several airplanes with its own air strip, etc. Many of these ministries claim if their supporters send them $1,000 dollars, God will reward them tenfold. If they really believe that, they should send everyone on their mailing list $1,000 dollars or even more! There are some great ministries out there today who invest most of their resources into God's Kingdom instead of their own. More than ever, we need to be sure the ministry/ministries we support are not just about business but are about God's business. In the time that we have left, how about if we invest in God's Kingdom instead of man's? Just something to think about.. |
