The Decline of Society PDF Print E-mail

Another Sign of the Lord's Appearing

Anyone who reads the newspapers or watches the news anywhere in the world today, knows that values in society, worldwide, are in decline! It is the opinion of this writer that to try to refute this point borders on the ridiculous! Even people who know nothing about Bible prophecy and the Scriptures that call for conditions to grow worse in the end times, observe the conditions in our world today, and know that something is up! It is not business as usual! Neither is the decline localized to a certain state or to the United States, it is happening all over the world.

The lack of justice we receive in the courtrooms of the world today indicate this problem better than any other indicator! Actually, the bustling justice system of today indicates two things: one, that we are in moral decline, and two, that we have lost our ability to define what to do about it. Take the following case as a recent example.

On February 21, 1997, Lawrence Singleton, convicted of raping, cutting off the arms, and leaving for dead a fifteen year old in California in 1978, appeared in court again. This time he is charged with first degree murder for killing Roxanna Hayes. The body of Roxanna was found in a puddle of blood in Singleton's house in Tampa Florida. He made no plea to the charge of murder and is being held without bond. For the rape and attempted murder in 1978, Singleton served eight years of a fourteen year sentence and was released on parole. Why?

This case is a true example of the mockery of justice that is going on all over the world. It is a model of the finished work of the liberal's art. Somewhere along the way, we have been convinced by liberal argument that we have to move over in society and make room for those who continually rape, murder, rob, steal, etcetera. What nonsense! What is happening to us? Who would have ever dreamed that we would live in a time when liberal thinking people would believe that we would do ourselves a service by learning to tolerate such activity as described above?

Jesus predicted that the days just before his coming would be just like the days of Noah. Genesis 6 records that in those days before the flood, the earth was filled with violence. We are there!

To my surprise, there are those who try to maintain that society is getting better. I am amazed by this! Who can observe current events in the world today, and say the world is getting better? This was a response I received from a person whom I was talking to about the end times and the return of Jesus. His accusation was that the purpose of my claim to be truthful about societies decline , was in order to validate my theological point. Believe me, I do not enjoy watching the world rapidly becoming a place of violence, war, immorality, child abuse, abortion, murder, etcetera! Neither am I playing some theological game in which I want to merely be given credit for being accurate in my theological position! Nor am I trying to convince anyone that we are living in the end times for some ulterior motives such as to sell books, or the likes! The real point of discussing any of these "signs" is twofold: one, to assert a Biblical reality that Jesus is coming soon, and two, to raise a question: Things are not getting better! Our world is in moral decline!

It is our position at Lion of Judah Ministry that the decline that we see in society today is nothing less than a "sign" that Jesus will appear very soon! We believe this because Scripture bears this point out in many places. Take for example, 2nd Timothy 3:1-13: But realize this, that in the last days difficult times will come. For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, unloving, irreconcilable, malicious gossips, without self-control, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God . . . But evil men and impostors will proceed from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived." Do these conditions sound familiar? Does this sound like it is prophesied for our world to become a better place? How much worse does it have to get before we are willing to start calling it what it is, "difficult times"? And how much worse will it have to get before the average person will start to look up and recognize that Jesus Christ is the only real hope for man?

Jesus will rule with a rod of iron when He returns to this earth and such moral decline will not be tolerated, "for from Zion will go forth the law, even the Word of the Lord from Jerusalem" (Micah 4:2). Society will be in a state in which God and His Word will be honored. The LORD will be will pleased for his righteousness' sake; "he will magnify the law, and make it honorable" (Isaiah 42:21). It will be a day when the "wolf will dwell with the lamb" (Isaiah 11:6). It will be a time when "they will not hurt or destroy" (Isaiah 11:9). It will be a time when "never again will they train for war" (Micah 4:3). I'm looking forward to that day!!! How about you?
